lyrics

The coping apparatuses that we apply
To intermittent distresses need not be applauded
The things that we should be thankful for are more rare
Fear not the recriminations of self-appointed doyens

What we are finding is that natural selection
Is not underlined by how much we gross per annum
There's little natural about all this, however
The federal reserves organs are not for donation

Lone trumpeter on a rooftop playing for us
Paquito el Chocolatero, meanwhile, is dismissed
Vast swaths of former small-timers imploding thus
Recovery projections seem to be somewhat bleak

A bird's eye view of the police standing around
Handing tickets out to the ignorant flock
At night the neighbour below us sings with his friends
Who've gathered incognito in senseless dissent

Permissible undertakings are tentative
Amassing of information is going to take time
Rest easy in sequestration—you'll be alright
Venture out to the fringes and stare at the night

A century of recorded culture exists
For all of us to pore over from virtual space
This is an opportune moment filled with delight
Give in to curiosity, against apathy fight

It's not for us to know, truly, who's wrong and who's right
Attend to your inner voice and try to be kind
As cars and motorbikes blare past your window at dawn
Imagine that they have neither choice nor will to contest

The coping apparatuses that we apply
To intermittent distresses need not be applauded
The things that we should be thankful for are more rare
Fear not the recriminations of self-appointed doyens
